Next week LIRA will begin our 18th year of advocacy on behalf of individuals and families in recovery and for many others impacted by addiction. Our commitment to staying the course and laying the groundwork in NY State over the years has made it possible for the emergence of many other like-minded groups who have joined us to create a potent, widely respected recovery advocacy movement. Grassroots campaigns have spread across the country and our friends are sharing similar messages with constituents; we must count on our own people to support our work going forward.
As 2016 draws to a close we are urging everyone to please consider making a donation to LIRA to help us continue our work on your behalf. When it comes to charitable giving please consider making LIRA the recipient of your tax deductible donations.
LIRA uses its funds to sponsor busses like the one we sent to Washington DC for Unite to Face Addiction and the bus we will have in February to Albany as we do every year. In addition, we pay for training's as we recently did to help our folks train as recovery coaches and peer advocates and we also award $1000 a year in recovery community scholarships $7,500 so far to date. We have donated funds to other start-up recovery organizations across the state to help them plant strong roots.
Historically LIRA has not received any funding, having depended solely on contributions from members and donors and sponsors of our annual Rock N Recovery celebration event.
We urge you to make a financial commitment to support this important work which we do together and ensure this path of progress continues for many years to come. Thank you for your support all year round and especially for your generous donations as 2016 draws to a close.
We wish you a safe, joyous, Happy and Healthy New Year.
